Movie Pocahontas (1995)

Pocahontas

20140211:
Without a doubt, the songs in this movie are great and memorable. If you haven't seen this movie before, then I would recommend it.

20180222:
Wow, I'm surprised it's been four years since I've seen this movie. Though compared to some other movies I've rewatched recently, four years is a short difference.

In any case, watching the movie today, I definitely noticed many details which definitely don't come to mind. In particular, I would not have been able to recap the entire plot as it occurred. Rather, my summary would have been the English arrive, Pocahontas sings "Just Around the Riverbend," John Smith meets Pocahontas, Pocahontas sings "Colors of the Wind," Pocahontas jumps on top of John Smith before he's killed by her father, and the English go home. In actuality, a lot of details happen in between these events.

Meeko and Percy

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 88% match. I decided to give the movie a thumbs up.

Instant Comments:
2: The sound begins during the black screen.

John Smith and Governor Ratcliffe

2: Hehe. Wine continues to pour.
2: Hmm. Drums also lead into the Native Americans.
2: What type of Native American was Pocahontas? [Wikipedia says she was the daughter of Chief Powhatan, paramount chief of Tsenacommacah]
1: Haha. Meeko's follow-up dive.

Nakoma, Meeko, Flit, and Pocahontas

2: I didn't realize the similarity between Moana and Pocahontas. Both are female characters whose fathers want them to assume there place in the tribe.
1: I don't think I ever noticed the detail of how Pocahontas takes that one dive down the river during "Just Around the River Bend."
2: Oh, a compass.
2: Smile. Meeko takes the cherry that he placed in Percy's mouth.

Pocahontas and John Smith

2: The first instance of the word "mine" is as a verb.
2: I totally didn't remember that John Smith jumped out ready to shoot her.
1: Hahahahaha. Meeko and Flit's jaws drop upon hearing Pocahontas speak, "Pocahontas. My name is Pocahontas."
2: Off the top of my head, Pocahontas is the Disney character who I'd be most attracted to. [She has an exotic, natural beauty. As opposed to Esmeralda who's a talented dancer.][I suppose those two would be followed by Jane, and then Meg, and then Aurora. And then Rapunzel with regular long hair.][Then again, comparing apples to apples requires all the characters being interpreted by a single artist, and that can vary the attractiveness of the character.]

Powhatan (Pocahontas's father)

2: Meeko finishes the braid.
2: So much happens in a short time. Kiss > Fight > Shot > Meeko & Percy.
1: "I'd rather die tomorrow, than live 100 years without knowing you."
2: So much trouble was caused by the secondary characters Nakoma and Thomas.

John Smith and Pocahontas

2: I saw Meeko throwing out some stuff and rewinded to see what items get thrown out. Meeko throws an acorn (possibly a reference to The Sword in the Stone), a fork (possibly a reference to The Little Mermaid), a small trumpet, and a tea cup. [Hmm. These items can be too generic to be actual references.][In one of the close-ups, the dinglehopper has a bent prong. The fork Meeko tosses does not have any bent prongs.
1: Oh. I probably never noticed that line. "Well, let's hope the wind is with him." 2: Although this refers to the winds of the sea, it also ties in with the theme of wind in the movie.
