Dante being seduced by succubi in the Second Circle of Hell (Lust).
Dante returns from the crusade and finds his family and his love, Beatrix, have been slaughtered. While Beatrix is worthy to go to heaven, she has made a deal with the devil and having loss the deal, Lucifer takes her to hell.

Lucifer and a demonized Beatrice.
Dante pursues him and seeks to retrieve Beatrix. However, the doors to hell have closed on him. Subsequently, Dante's sins are sewn onto his body and a prophet named Virgil appears. He serves as Dante's guide through hell and does not physically help Dante.

Dante defeats Charon, the demonic ferry.
As Dante goes through the various circles, he recalls various memories and sins. In particular, in the circle of Lust, he is shown the reason Beatrix has been claimed. More precisely, he is shown the moment he sinned and betrayed her.

These demonic children, found in the First Circle of Hell (Limbo),
make the video game Limbo feel like a playground.
Throughout his passage through hell, he also meets people he knew in life who have sinned and found their ways to hell.

Will Dante be able to save Beatrix? Furthermore, will he be able to save himself?

Dante and Virgil.
I enjoy the animation in this film, but was a little confused at first upon seeing Virgil and Dante take on different appearances from circle to circle. Apparently, different parts of the movie have different directors and are produced by different animation studios.

This is a good movie, but I should note that it isn't appropriate for kids, because the movie is dark, is violent, contains sexual content, and nudity.

Dante's father in the Fourth Circle of Hell (Greed).
Instant Comments:
Virgil asks, "Have you considered she is not the only soul you are here to save?" and Dante doesn't give it a second thought. Ha!
Clearly this man's not good at mathematics. What's 1000 years free of torment compared to an eternity of death? And as Dante points out, what good is any gold received.
"But, can you believe me? Can you believe a traitor?"
