This has a similar feel in quality to the Labyrinth. Immerse yourself in a new world. It doesn't quite feel as real as some of the world-immersing movies made in recent times. That's okay, it has its own 80's charm.

The dragon's flying is a little silly. And I don't know if the ending of the movie follows the same plot as the book (I read on the trivia page that the movie ends at the book's halfway point), but I found the ending weird. I thought that while imagination and reality can intertwine, that there would still be some sense of boundary between them. The ending of the movie depicts them as being the same, which is terrifying and/or confusing. Especially with reading a short summary on Wikipedia what happens in the second half of The Neverending Story (Wikipedia.org) by Michael Ende. The following was on Wikipedia with a source cited: "Ende requested they halt production or change the movie's name, as it had drastically deviated from his novel; when they did neither, he sued them and subsequently lost the case."

Good movie. If you liked Labyrinth, give this a watch when you have time to spare.
