Exercise:
Meia lua de compasso

Sequence:
Mid troca, negativa, attempt/fake role, go the other way.
To go the other way, you switch the hand you plant on. So if you were attempting/faking to role to the right, your right leg would have been sticking forward and your right hand planted. Switch to the left hand.
The left hand should be slightly away from your body for you to shift your weight to your hand and off from the foot your bottom is resting on.
This foot (left) comes out and you begin to turn your body.
Finally bring the other leg over (right). Now you should be looking through your legs as you begin to finish the role in the direction opposite the way you were first going (now you are headed left).

In partners:
A: Does the above. When B blocks you, switch directions as show above.
B: Fake armada. The leg that stepped across steps back to where it belongs. Say the leg fake was going to the right. So your left leg stepped across. This caused A to go into mid troca to the A's left. A begins to switch and go to A's right. Your right leg steps back to the center. You see A beginning the role. You need to bring your right leg across and block A. Alternatively, your motion can be intended to startle and confuse A.

Notes: possible alternatives to switching directions: go into an au, if you saw it coming and you have space, go into it with momentum and that should sweep B off B's feet. This should only be done if the other person is prepared to fall. You should notify the other person before you attempt such a counter-attack. On the other hand, A should focus on getting in and out, especially if the intention is just to startle and confuse B. You get a couple seconds. Otherwise, as soon as B understands the situation, B can take control and A is vulnerable. Finally, A can do a double trap using the other leg to block the other direction. This has some variations. For example, A can just bring both in, and B finds him/herself trapped immediately. Or A can give the illusion B has an out, and then when B begins to move, A hops over to that side with the other foot. Then B moves back, and A hops back.
